Calm, Not stressed......A-OK!!!!!

Just a quick post to let everyone know how calm and collected I am....I am NOT stressed.....and you may ask, why would you be stressed? And my answer is......Texas Education Agency(TEA) is here auditing us for the TAKS test.....asking many, many questions, making sure we are doing everything just right!! So that's no reason to be stressed....right??.......right??? Someone please tell me that it's not a reason to be stressed!!

The lady that's here is really nice. She told me a while ago that everything looked good so far and then she said, but it's still early...I'll be here tomorrow too!! After she saw the color leave my face, she said, oh, I'm just kidding....I'm sure it will be alright tomorrow....'you are just easy to mess with'...meaning it doesn't take much to make me panic!!

Ok...I better get back to work......and convincing myself that I'm cool, calm, NOT stressed and A-OK!!!!!

These are some of our farm animals. I thought I would show pictures of them because they happen to be the only family members that won't talk back to me or cause me grief!!! Maybe I'll include humans in my next post!!

Surprise....

I've been having a bad week...every day so far has been a Monday, if you know what I mean! The TAKS test is next week and I've been trying to get all of tests ready and try to make sure I have the right test for the right kid and I've had to change the testing schedule at least 5 times because this teacher or that teacher wants to give this test or has to be gone or SOMETHING!! I've been trying really hard to make everyone happy, but it is stressing me out!!

Not only this, but I'm trying to get these seniors to get their scholarhips in and they don't want to. They have senioritis!! But their parents want them to, so they call me and ask about them. And then the JH kids are wild and crazy and cannot get along to save their lives!!! Monday morning a senior student who has only 5 more weeks before graduation tells me that he failed algebra 2 last year and is not taking it this year!! He wants to know if he needs it to gradutate!!! DUH!!! Of course you have to have it!! So he almost gave me a heart attack, but we did figure out a solution after a couple of hours!! Why don't kids take care of business?????

Today, I was just about to make my escape home when I was called to the office for a major incident, so I had to stay late. This was only one of many incidences this week. High school is a soap opera!!
So now for the surprise...I was eating lunch today and this lady that I didn't know found me and handed me this big basket full of goodies. She is a counselor from region 9 and wanted to tell me that I'm doing a good job and she appreciates all I do for the kids!! That was very nice and I was very surprised! It was just want I needed at just the right time. It's always good to hear that you are appreciated, so go tell someone they are!!

Erynn

I got to spend yesterday afternoon with Erynn. All of the neighbor kids were gone and she couldn't find Bailey to play with, so she was stuck with me. If you don't know Erynn you are missing out. She is 8 years old and she is a character!! Saying she is a drama queen is an understatement. She talks all of the time and knows everything. Whenever I ask her Mom or brothers something, she answers....even if you think she is not listening, she is!! Her teacher Mrs. Gaylor must have unlimited amount of patience!! She knows if her brothers have homework, she tells if they get in trouble on the bus or anywhere else in the school. If anyone in her class does something wrong, she is the first to tell the teacher. She sometimes gets in trouble for talking but she says it's not her fault...that all of the kids ask her questions about their work, so she has to answer them!!

She is sort of a hypochondriac!! She is always making visits to the school nurse for some sort of ailment. I have a blood pressure machine at home and she likes taking her bp. Yesterday she said she thought she had high blood pressure and wanted to take it. So she locks her self in my room and takes her bp. She comes out with a serious look on her face and shows me what it was....and said, 'Nana, I think I need to go to the doctor'.....her bp was 91/59 and she thought she had high bp!!

We were on our way to Walmart and she says to me....'I have ADD'... and I said I don't think you do, Erynn....do you know what that is?, and she said that yes she does have it and it means that you can't pay attention and that she has a hard time paying attention because she is bored....that she already knows everything that they are doing in school. Mrs. Jenschsky, good luck if you have the privilege of having Erynn next year!!

She always finds something to keep herself entertained. Yesterday, she wanted to play store. So before I knew it, there were sticky notes with a price on it, on every item in my house...including the cat!! I was on the computer and she stuck one on the mouse that I was using and on the computer screen...

One day when they got out of school early, they were staying with Tony. He went to take a nap thinking that the kids were watching tv. When he got up they were gone, so he went to their house, which is only a block away, and sure enough, all three kids were there, along with an assortment of neighbor kids. They know that they are not suppose to have kids in the house when their Mom is not there so Tony ran them off. Well, Erynn was very upset with him and told him that he was mean and she started crying. After he went outside, she immediately called her Mom at work and told her that T-pa was mean and that he wouldn't let the kids stay in the house. And she said as she was crying....'T-pa hates children!!'

My Ten Favorite Movie Characters

I was tagged by this Lana, who was tagged by this Lana. Yes there are 3 of us in the blogosphere that I know of!! Lana is not a very common name, so I was excited to find 2 more!!

I'm suppose to name my 10 favorite movie characters and tell why they are cool!! I'm doing female characters. I have a list of male ones, but I'll do that another time. And then I'm suppose to tag 5 people. So here it goes....

1. Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail. I don't like Meg Ryan, but I think she is cool in this movie because she gets Tom Hanks....and he's my favorite.

2. Sally Field in Steel Magnolias. I've always loved Sally Field and I think she did an awesome job in this movie. It's one movie I have watched over and over.

3. Shirley McClain in Terms of Endearment. She is cool in this movie because of the love she has for her daughter and grandkids.

4. Jennifer Connelley in A Beautiful Mind. Another favorite movie. I admire Mrs. Nash for all that she had to go through with her husband's illness.

5. Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing. I always wanted to be a dancer!!

6. Olivia Newton John in Grease. She's cool because she gets to dance with John Travolta....who is the coolest of all!!

7. Jane Fonda in Georgia Rule.

8. Lindsey Lohan in Mean Girls.

9. Drew Barrymore in Fever Pitch.

10. Julia Roberts in Step Mom.

Here are the 5 people I'm tagging:

Doctor

I have been having high blood pressure for a while now and for the past week, chest pains have been happening too. I'm not one that runs to the doctor for every little thing...in fact, I practically have to have someone make me go! But my family insisted that I go and have it checked out. I saw Dr. Pratt. He's really nice. Lynsi is Dr. Carter's nurse and they work in the same 'pod' as Dr. Pratt, so they are pretty close. She knew I was there, so she came and got me from the waiting room and we were passing the scale and she told me to get on and I said, no, I'm skipping this part.....and she said no, I wasn't!! I told her that the last time I was here, I got to skip it, but she said, no I was not skipping this part!! She made me get on it! I think I want another nurse next time that won't be so bossy and will let me be in charge!! Anyway, back to the Dr. visit. He said that he didn't think I was having a heart attack, but wanted to put me on blood pressure meds and do an EKG. So he found out from the EKG that my heart is skipping a beat. He didn't want to alarm me but said that he wanted me to have it checked out by a cardiologist. So I guess that is my next step. I'm sure it's nothing, but it will be good to find out for sure. Those meds he gave me.......I kinda feel like I'm in a daze.....blurry vision, headache.....and just a blah feeling. Everyone that has taken these meds before tells me that I'll feel like this for a little while, but it will go away some day.

Things

I'm sitting here in my office in the JH building. We are all locked down because the 8th graders are testing in this building. It's just 2 teachers, the 8th graders and me. It's very quiet!! No one is allowed in this building today, except for us!!

Last week was a crazy week....but aren't they all??? Lynsi got sick with pneumonia and was in the hospital for 3 days. I had her 3 kids, which I don't mind at all....it's just that I'm too old to get 3 kids and me ready for school!! Tony actually did it the first day and then I did it on Thursday and Friday. They were really good, but it's hectic getting all of their folders signed, their picture money ready, making sure their homework is in their folder and feeding them breakfast...of course they all want something different. I sure admire parents of school age children who work....especially single parents....Lynsi does this everyday!!!

At school it's also been crazy this week. We have had some trouble with some very offensive things on kids cell phones at school. I can't go into the details, but if you have a teenager, or a pre-teen, I suggest that you check your child's phone once in a while. Other people can send forwards to their phone and if they get caught with the offensive material on their phones, they can be in big trouble. It's horrible what some people send to kids' phones and then of course those kids will send it on to their friends. If you have watched the news lately, there's something known as 'sexting' that kids do these days. They send pictures of themselves with nothing on to their boyfriends or girlfriends, who in turn send them to other kids and put them on the internet. It's a very serious problem. Don't think that your kids are immune to stuff like that. From what I've seen this week alone....anyone can do it and will do it. There are cases in the news about kids being arrested for this kind of thing. It's considered child pornograhy.

I'm on the entertainment committee in Childress. We do all of the 4th of July stuff in the park, have a 4th of July pageant, and do a talent show in the fall. During Easter, we have what is called a Tiny Tot Revue. It's a little fun pageant for boys and girls from newborn to age 6. It's a way to show off their Easter clothes and let everyone see how darling your child is!! And they all are precious. We do give prizes to one boy and one girl in each catergory, except for the babies......you can't judge babies.....they are all cute!! They use to do this in Wellington and they did it for over 20 years, but it was turned over to other people and it finally fizzled out, so we decided to try it here. It's been successful so far. This is our 4th year to do it. If you know someone with little kids, tell them about this or if you just like to see cute kids, then come and watch. We will also have entertainment between groups. It's Sat. at 6:30 in the JH auditorium. If you want to enter someone, go to Fantastic Footwear or Deanna's Cuttin' Up cottage and pick up a form. We will take entries until Friday.

Here are a few of the contestants from last year. Aren't they cute!!

Here are the entertainers from last year!

Mother and Child

Blogs, I think, are suppose to be about your thoughts. There are picture blogs that are nothing but pictures. Mine seems to be a combination, leaning more towards pictures. But I love pictures...taking them and posting them. And like they say...a picture is worth a thousand words......so here are my many thousands of words today. But stay tuned for updates about this week later.

Is it Necessary to be So Rude!!

I was at Lynsi's with Erynn...the phone rang and Erynn answered it....here's how it went.

Erynn: Hello

Man: Is Paulina there?

Erynn: I think you have the wrong number.

Man: You are lying!!!

Erynn, (with a shocked look on her face) to me: Nana, he doesn't believe me!!!

Me: Hello

Man: I need to talk to Paulina

Me: Who?

Man(practically yelling): Who?, Paulina (he said her last name but I won't), that's who!

Me: You have the wrong number

Man: Is this ***-****(he said Lynsi's number)

Me: Yes

Man(in the most hateful voice ever): Well, on March 15th this was the right number.

Me: No one by that name lives here.

Man(sarcastically): REALLY!!!

Me: Yes, this is the Martinez residence!!

Man: Uhhhh.....(and he hung up)

How can you be so rude?? And how can you tell an 8 yr. old she's a liar!!! What an idiot!!
